The solution
Built around the task
Medtasker brings the communication around each hospital task into one place, from the initial request through to completion.
Hospital work is hard enough. Medtasker is designed to make it easier.
How it works
Right person. Right time.
Medtasker connects the right person to the right task with the right information – first time. Here’s how that works in practice.
Task creation and routing
Tasks are role-specific and come with all the detail needed to act (patient, location, priority and context). A task for a ward cleaner goes to cleaning. A task for the pharmacy team goes to pharmacy. A task about a deteriorating patient goes to the medical team on duty for that ward.
Requests are allocated to the role, not the individual, so whoever is actually on shift receives it.
Live on-duty directory
The on-duty directory is the source of truth for who is filling each role on shift. No paging the wrong person and no calls to switchboard to find out who’s covering.
When a nurse needs a medical registrar, Medtasker knows who is rostered on at that moment, and the request reaches them on the device they’re carrying.
Reminders, escalation and priority
Every type of task has its own escalation profile, tuned to hospital protocol. Unacknowledged tasks first remind the recipient, then escalate automatically, horizontally to a team or up the chain. Deteriorating patients escalate on one timeline. Emergency Code Response calls on another. Non-clinical requests on another again.
Medtasker system applies the rules your hospital sets, consistently, at scale.
In-task messaging and photos
Clarifications, follow-ups and photos stay attached to the task. Not scattered in a separate chat thread. Every update accompanies the task through its lifecycle, so anyone picking it up mid-shift has the full context.
Image capture is supported within the same flow. Pressure injuries, IV sites and rash progression can be captured in-app with patient details and encounter context. They can also be uploaded to the patient’s clinical record. No phones full of sensitive photos that shouldn’t be there.
Shift handover
When a shift ends, open tasks stay with the role for the next person logging in, or can be forwarded to the appropriate role on the next shift. Every clarification and photo travels with the task, so the incoming staff member sees the full history (who raised the task, what’s been done and what still needs attention).
No unfocused shift change meetings. No tasks left behind at the end of a long night.
Complete audit trail
Every task records who sent it, who received it, when it was acknowledged and when it was completed. 100% of Medtasker communications are captured compared to 0% of pager messages (which are rarely retained and can’t be reviewed).
That’s the difference between an incident review that takes days and one that takes hours.
Security matters
Messaging apps weren’t built for clinical work
Mainstream messaging apps help teams keep in touch. But when they’re used for clinical work, critical requests can get buried in threads and overlooked.
Coordinating clinical work requires:
- Accurate requests to the clinicians actually on duty
- Escalation when no one responds
- A defensible record that holds up in review.
Medtasker does all three. It was built for clinical work, not adapted for it.
Beyond the dashboard
Make decisions based on information, not assumptions
Rich operational data
Medtasker provides clear visibility into task volumes, response times, demand patterns and how teams work together.
Evidence-based decisions
Hospitals have used Medtasker data to change shift times to match demand, build the case for more staff on shift and upskill their teams.
Reports and exports
Standard reports within Medtasker include data exports and feeds to support analytics platforms and business intelligence systems.
Outcomes and performance
Real outcomes from
hospitals using Medtasker
“We’ve seen real improvements in the emergency department access block. In a hospital with a lot of legacy technology and models of care, Medtasker has proven to be a real vehicle for change.”
Dr Joshua Power — Emergency Physician, Royal Hobart Hospital
Metro South Health
27% improvement in after-hours clinical review times, with 71% fewer day jobs handed to after-hours staff.
Northern Health
Achieved a 90% reduction in after-hours calls to switchboard following the introduction of Medtasker.
Tasmania DoH
Clinical incident reviews completed in hours, not days, using a complete audit-ready record.

Frequently asked questions
What kinds of work can Medtasker manage?
Medtasker manages any task a hospital needs to coordinate, not only clinical work. A task for a deteriorating patient goes to the medical team on duty. A medication query goes to pharmacy. A cleaning job goes to cleaning. Patient transport, security and building services run the same way. Every task carries the patient, location, priority and context needed to act and reaches the right role on shift. One solution, rather than a separate tool for each team.
How does Medtasker decide who receives a task?
Medtasker routes every task to a role, not a named individual. A live on-duty directory holds who is filling each role on each shift, so the request reaches whoever is actually rostered on at that moment. When a nurse needs a medical registrar, Medtasker knows who that is and sends the request to the device they are carrying. No paging the wrong person. No call to switchboard to find out who is covering.
What visibility does Medtasker give managers and clinical leaders?
Medtasker turns thousands of daily tasks into a clear picture of how the hospital runs. Operational dashboards show task volumes, response times, demand peaks and which shifts carry the most pressure. Managers and coordinators use this to plan staffing, allocate resources and target training to real activity. For clinical leaders, Medtasker provides the data to rebalance workloads and free after-hours doctors to focus on deteriorating patients.
How is Medtasker different from a messaging app or group chat?
Messaging apps help teams keep in touch, but clinical requests often get buried in threads and missed. Effectively coordinating clinical work requires three things: accurate requests sent to the clinicians actually on duty, automatic escalation when no one responds and a defensible record that holds up in review. Medtasker does all three.
What record does Medtasker keep of tasks and communications?
Medtasker records every step of every task, including who raised it, who received it, when it was acknowledged and when it was completed. 100% of communications in Medtasker are captured, compared with none of the messages sent by pager. When an incident needs review, the full time-stamped record is already there. That can turn a review that once took days into one that takes hours.
How is Medtasker deployed, and how long does implementation take?
Deployment is staged. Most health services start with one or two modules (e.g. After-Hours Clinical Coordination to tackle new hospital workflow design). After proving value in these key areas, usage expands as other teams also want to use the system. Implementation timelines depend on scope, commissioning of technology and change management within the health service. Medtasker’s delivery and support team is Australasia-based, with no offshoring.
Does Medtasker integrate with our PAS, EMR and other hospital systems?
Medtasker is designed to fit alongside the systems you already run, not replace them. Common integrations include:
- Active Directory for authentication and role management
- Patient Administration Systems (PAS) for inpatient and non-admitted patient information
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and digital medical record systems
- Emergency Department (ED) systems for ED patient information
- Patient journey boards and flow systems
- Nurse call systems for unified task management processes
