Medtasker manages every type of hospital code. Medical Emergency Team (MET) calls, code blue for cardiac arrest, code black, code yellow, code orange, trauma calls, paediatric codes and 777 alerts in New Zealand all run through Medtasker. So do non-clinical codes such as security incidents and infrastructure emergencies, and any event where a defined team needs to reach a specific location fast.

Medtasker slots into the way the hospital already activates codes. Wall-mounted MET buttons, emergency phones, nurse call and switchboard processes all keep working. What changes is what happens after activation. Instead of a one-way page or overhead announcement, the alert routes to the right responders on their mobile devices, with real-time tracking and a complete record.

Each code has its own escalation profile, configured to the hospital’s protocols. If an alert isn’t acknowledged within the configured time, Medtasker escalates it automatically along a pathway the hospital sets, reaching a backup role, a secondary team or a broader response group. Coordinators see the unacknowledged alert on the live dashboard and can add roles to the response as needed.

Emergency Code Response alerts via Medtasker use high-priority notification channels that override a device’s silent settings. A phone on silent in a pocket still sounds the alert. For a time-critical code, reaching the responder never depends on whether they remembered to take their phone off silent.

Medtasker can completely replace pagers, along with many of the associated phone calls, group chats and handovers associated with pager-based task management. Instead of a number to call back, every request through Medtasker arrives with the patient, location and clinical priority attached. This results in a closed-loop communication cycle, where the sender always knows the request was received and actioned, and can see progress in real-time.

Every alert, acknowledgement, escalation and action is time-stamped and captured by Medtasker. Hospitals use this record for clinical audit, compliance reporting, sentinel event review and quality improvement. The record also gives a defensible account of the response if an event is later examined, built from structured data rather than reconstructed from pager logs.

For Emergency Code Response, it is strongly recommended that Medtasker is deployed in a high-availability configuration with built-in redundancy, so the service keeps running through an unexpected outage. Staff responding to codes should use hospital-issued devices rather than personal phones under BYOD.
